GNIT Launched It's First Center Of Excellence In Open Source.

Online, November 16, 2012 (Newswire.com) - GNIT launched it's first center of Excellence in Open Source .It is the first time in the history of Greater Noida when the Center of Excellence have been opened by a private institution. The Programme was inaugurated by the lightning of lamp by Mr K.K. Biswas , Prof. at IIT Delhi.

A centre that would serve as a hub to research and develop open source software.. An Open Source Software is computer software, which gives users accesses to its source code to enable users to modify and make it available to the public under special licensing agreements. The centre, which was launched through the initiative of GNIT aims at harnessing Information Technology potentials as well as support entrepreneurs to successfully run open source .

On this occasion Prof. K.K Biswas ,I.I.T Delhi told about Open Source that it is software whose source code is published and made available to the public, enabling anyone to copy, modify and redistribute the source code without paying royalties or fees.Open-source code can evolve through community cooperation. These communities are composed of individual programmers as well as very large companies. Many of these individuals programmers who start an open-source project usually end up as large companies with open-source programs.

On this occasion Mr. K.L Gupta, chairman of GNIT said that our main aim for opening the Center Of excellence in our campus is to provide practical knowledge to the students which will be benefitial for their future. He emphasized that students must know their area of interest and said that very few educational institution provide these kind of platform .
