GCU Members to Volunteer Throughout Nation for Helping Hands Day

GCU members help in beautification projects both in communities and churches for Helping Hands Day.

The Greek Catholic Union (GCU) Helping Hands Day Program provides additional funding to GCU Lodges to assist with planting, cleaning, weeding, landscaping, and other cleanup efforts from April through October each year. GCU Lodges are able to plan an activity to benefit their local churches and communities through these beautification and maintenance events.

The program was born of the environmental efforts at Mt. Saint Macrina in Uniontown, PA and Holy Annunciation Monastery in Sugarloaf, PA. Each June, the GCU partners with youth and adults to help beautify the grounds of Mt. Saint Macrina in preparation for the annual pilgrimage, as well as at Holy Annunciation Monastery.

Helping Hands Day is an opportunity for adults and youth to come together and work to make their church and community a cleaner and more beautiful place.

This year, the GCU held a logo contest to find a new logo to be used consistently to raise awareness of the program and participation at events. GCU members of all ages were encouraged to submit their logo concept using any artistic medium, including photography or art software. The winning logo will be announced in the June issue of the GCU Magazine, and will be used on t-shirts and other promotional material for the annual Helping Hands Day events.

In addition to the national events at Mt. Saint Macrina and Holy Annunciation Monastery, local GCU Lodges will hold events in Pittsburgh, PA, Butler, PA, Boardman, OH, Clinton Township, MI, and New York, NY this year.
