FORE School of Management was recently chosen by the Directorate General of Resettlement as one of the few institutes in the country to offer a Management Development Program for Defence Officers. The aim of the program is to help defence personnel make a smooth transition into civilian life. The Certificate Course in Business Management for Defence Officers was inaugurated on 2nd June, 2014 and is already making its mark.

Six Defence Officers are already going through the six month, full-time program that can guide them in the right direction on their professional journey as civilians. After all, the program was specially designed to ensure that core managerial competencies of defence personnel are boosted so that it can lead to their professional growth. The certificate course is meant for those who are on the verge of leaving the services and want to make new beginnings.

The program aims to acquaint officers with today's business environment and enhance their leadership skills. It also strives to give them exposure to various areas of management and equip them with the analytical skills needed for effective decision making. From Economic analysis and policy to Human Resources Management, Communication and Presentation Skills to Financial Management and Entrepreneurship Development, the program will focus on the integral areas of management.

FORE School of Management has done everything possible to ensure that the program is in keeping with today's business trends, and its mission is to help defence personnel with their second careers. The pedagogy of the program involves lectures, case studies, exercises, simulation and games, projects and assignments. Industry visits and interactions with guest speakers might be organized by the institute to offer much required exposure for the defence personnel.

Prof. Asif Zameer, Chairperson, Management Development Programme (MDP, FORE School of Management, New Delhi) is excited about working with the officers, who valiantly serve their country and its people. It's an opportunity to give something back to them and he is mindful of the responsibility involved too, as he says, "We have created this program with great care and to offer the best learning opportunities to these heroes. By the end of the program, we are confident that they will be able to make a place for themselves in whatever field they choose." And that would truly be "mission accomplished."
