Ford C-MAX Energi Delivers Astounding Fuel Economy

Online, July 25, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The official release date may still be a few months away, but the new 2013 Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid is already capturing the attention of those in and around the auto industry. Expected to achieve more than 20 miles of electric-only travel, Ford's first ever plug-in hybrid is anticipated to obtain a 550-total mile range; becoming, as Ford noted, "the first hybrid vehicle ever that can be driven from Sacramento to San Diego on a single tank of gas and make the average American commute without gasoline."

Expected to be at or near the top of the hybrid class in fuel economy and electric only speed, the C-MAX Energi is scheduled to deliver fuel economy that is "equivalent to 95 miles per gallon (MPGe) combined city/highway".

"We are proud C-MAX Energi is the first plug-in hybrid that can deliver a 550-mile overall range and more than 20 miles of electric range as it gives customers great flexibility to commute to work, then take off for a road trip while passing many gas stations along the way," said John Davis, chief nameplate engineer for Ford's compact cars and utility vehicles. In addition to the extended travel life and electric only speed, the Energi takes "hybrid" a step further. The C-MAX Energi is being referred to as a "hybrid-plus" due to the fact that it combines the operation of the C-MAX Hybrid with the lithium-ion battery and external charge port. With the choice of being powered by a 120-volt outlet or 240-volt charge station, the C-MAX Hybrid is expected to be the most affordable hybrid vehicle on the market in America.
