Flame Run Showcases Art Of Glass Beads In "Surface: Beads Of Internal Depth & External Decoration"

International Society of Glass Beadmakers hosts its 19th annual conference in Louisville

Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery will celebrate the contemporary glass bead movement with an exhibit of beads by artists from across the world from July 29 through Sept. 17. An opening night reception begins at 6 p.m.

"The pieces are a whole lot smaller than we are used to, but glass art doesn't have to be big to be beautiful," said Tiffany Ackerman, the gallery's manager.

The juried exhibit includes 59 beads, ranging in size from one inch to twelve inches wide, said Kendra Bruno, Executive Director of the Columbus-based International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB). More than 1,700 artists from across the world belong to ISGB.

"They are glass beads with layers that create visible depth using glass, metal, etching, enamels, reactive glass, complex stringer work and more," Bruno said.

The exhibit will open while the International Society of Glass Beadmakers hosts its 19th annual conference in Louisville from July 27 to July 31, 2011. This year's theme is "Diversity and Creativity: Cultural Influences in Glass Beadmaking".
