First New Design Concept Taco Bell Opens In Redwood City California

This Taco Bell in Redwood City is the first of this new design concept to be constructed in California, opening its doors in October of 2012.

When one sees a building with a simple but sophisticated image, with a vertical stone tower and a low bulkhead with a horizontal slatted metal projecting element wrapping around the front and side of the building, they may not immediately think of a Taco Bell.

VMI architecture, Inc., working closely with the Taco Bell Corporate team, designed the new concept quick service restaurant to include a welcoming pedestrian and street traffic presence.

With this new design, gone are the traditional Taco Bell branding elements such as the flying arches, prominent towers, and multi-colored friezes. This is just a quiet, simple design that attracts customers to the site. The new signage concept is modern and elegant too; simply a white curved "swoosh" of an arch, with white lettering below. Behind the horizontal slatted bulkhead, the underlying wall is painted purple. The purple color glows softly at night with surface illumination behind the slat wall.

The remaining bulk of the building is painted a more traditional warm tan color and has sculptured panels to break up the mass.

This building meets or exceeds California green code requirements, and green building technology abounds in this new design, as well as in the bio-retention basins designed to collect storm water runoff and percolate it back into the soil on site.

VMI architecture, Inc., is a San Francisco bay area firm committed to green, sustainable practices.
