'Find Houston Senior Care' Launches New Online Directory Specifically for Baby Boomers

Representing nearly 30 percent of the U.S. population, many in this generation are prepping for a carefree life of retirement—and one local company hopes to make the process even easier

About every ten seconds, someone in the United States turns 65. This equates to approximately three to four million boomers a year. Talk about a lot! Texas is leading the pack for this growing segment of the population. Houston's aging population alone has increased by nearly 18 percent, and the number of assisted-living facilities in the Houston area has increased by 33 percent.

"It is no surprise that Houston is booming. Families are moving here from other states and often want to bring an aging parent to live close by," stated Kathryn Watson, owner of FindHoustonseniorcare.com.

In February, Watson launched Find Houston Senior Care, a website that provides care options for the seniors in the Houston metro area. The online directory allows people to look for specific services without needing to speak to an operator or advisor.

"People are free to browse the site and connect directly with the service providers. Beginning prices are also listed, so they know what to expect," mentioned Watson. "The site is also very map driven, so it is easy to see at a glance what companies and facilities will be close to where they live and work."

The site includes an events calendar to also help folks easily locate caregiver support groups, conferences and other activities. Find Houston Senior Care is especially helpful for baby boomers who aren't just looking after their own well-being. Many are also taking care of their aging parents. Thanks to advances in medicine and healthcare, the Pew Research Center has found that 71% of today's boomers have at least one living parent.

"We know that families are overwhelmed and often have a lot of questions," stated Watson. "We take the middle man out of the picture. There is no locator associated with this website and no one will blast your name out to 15 providers who all start calling you."

Whether they're looking for an elder care attorney or in home care, baby boomers can find exactly what they need on FHSC without having to spend hours searching for it on the web.
