Independent & Image Art Space

Independent & Image Art Space is located in 501 Art Base, Jiulongpo District Chongqing (China), which is the most mature and important art zone in Chongqing, next door to the old campus of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, one of China’s top art universities. Since the foundation, Independent & Image Art Space has been paying close attention to the development of Chinese contemporary art, especially the contemporary photography art. Towards the world and based in China, with an open attitude and unique art vision, Independent & Image Art Space is engaged into the progress and practice of contemporary art. During the years, it presented numerous exhibitions of contemporary photography and related lectures, seminars and salon activities etc. It actively promotes and takes part in the academic study, promotion and education of contemporary photography art in China. Now Independent & Image Art Space has become one of the most important platform of the contemporary photography art communication in China’s Southwest area.

In 2016 Independent & Image Art Space opens a new non-profit art project: World Contemporary Photography Archive. Starting from an internationally multi-cultural perspective, this project aims to catch the frontiers of contemporary photography art worldwide, to present, exhibit and archive the outstanding contemporary photography artists and their works in current times, so as to create a rich content, academically valuable archive with a long time lasting efforts. World Contemporary Photography Archive will help the Chinese society to get more and deeper understanding of contemporary photography art, to enhance the communication of contemporary photography art between China and the world, and also to provide valuable research resources for contemporary photography academics study. What’s more, taking the project World Contemporary Photography Archive as an opportunity, Independent & Image Art Space will host a series of art educational activities, making more people feel the charm of contemporary photography art and making the art walk into people’s life.

World Contemporary Photography Archive Exhibition I will organize through an open call to internationally artists with no limit of theme, nationality and age. Independent & Image Art Space will select the works to exhibit from all submissions. All the selected works and artists’ profile will be published on the website of Independent & Image Art Space (https://independentimage.org), permanently and continuously exhibiting on the above website. The selected works will be printed and framed by Independent & Image Art Space, and exhibited at World Contemporary Photography Archive Exhibition I. After the exhibition, Independent & Image Art Space will collect the works free of charge, exhibit the collected contemporary photographic works on a regular basis. Independent & Image Art Space plans to publish related catalogs and art documentary books to systematize the documents and materials in the World Contemporary Photography Archive.

EXHIBITION DATES AND PLACE

Dates: February 18, 2017 – March 17, 2017

Opening: Saturday February 18, 2017 from 4-6pm

Place: Independent & Image Art Space, 501 Art Base, No.126 Huangjueping Main Street, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, China.

ELIGIBILITY

Artists worldwide working on contemporary photography, at any stage of their careers may apply.
There is not limit of nationality and age.


IMAGE SUBMISSION

Only the works created with the media of photography is accepted. There is no limit on the theme. Works must be created after 2010.

Submit up to 20 works image in JPEGS. The JPEGS files must be labeled as follows: title _sizeincm_year.jpg. For example, Untitled_60x60cm_2012.jpg.
The JPEGS should be at 300dpi with a size less than 2MB.

WORKS AT EXHIBITION
Independent & Image Art Space will select the works to exhibit from all submissions. The selected works will be printed and framed by Independent & Image Art Space, and exhibited at World Contemporary Photography Archive Exhibition I. The exhibited size of the selected works will be decided by Independent & Image Art Space, and will be communicated to the selected artists when notifying the selection result.

The selected artists should provide the high resolution and big size digital files for printing. After printing, these digital files will be deleted. Independent & Image Art Space will not reserve any high resolution and big size digital image files of the artists.

After the exhibition, Independent & Image Art Space will collect the works free of charge, provide the artists collection certificates, exhibit the collected contemporary photographic works on a regular basis, and support activities like contemporary photography academic study and art education with the collected works. The collected works will not be used for sale or for any commercial purposes. All the selected works and artists’ profile will be published on the website of Independent & Image Art Space (https://independentimage.org), permanently and continuously exhibiting on the above website.

 ENTRY FEE

There is a processing fee of $50 to submit - payable via Paypal to: artiias@qq.com.

The selected artists will not pay other costs. The artists will be responsible for their own expenses for attending the exhibition and its opening.

FORMS

Please submit one ZIP file labeled as Surname_Givenname.zip, for example Smith_John.zip, and send to the email: artiias@qq.com. The ZIP file should include：

- filled and signed application form (you can find the application form on the Open Call page of the website https://independentimage.org);

- one photo of artist, within 1MB;

- up to 20 image digital files as required above;

- payment receipt of entry fee.

DEADLINE

The open call will close on midnight (GMT +8 Beijing time) December 30, 2016.

RESULT
The selection result will be sent to the email address provided by each artist in the application form before January 20, 2017.
