Erin Lale Campaign Reaches Out To Hispanic Voters
The Erin Lale Campaign, a nonpartisan campaign for Henderson, Nevada, City Council, launched a program to reach out to Hispanic voters today by adding a human-translated page in Spanish to the campaign website.
November 7, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Erin Lale Campaign, a nonpartisan campaign for Henderson, Nevada, City Council, launched a program to reach out to Hispanic voters today by added a human-translated page in Spanish to the campaign website. The Campaign will also be printing human-translated materials in Spanish.
Lale says, "Machine translation is OK for things like contact information, lists of endorsements, and other utility pages where there is no grammar involved. People can copy and paste those pages into online translators and it comes out fine. But the information about issues and my experience needed to be translated by a human because it's complete sentences, and it has to sound right. My campaign doesn't have a lot of money yet, since it's still the pre-season for the 2013 election, but I wanted to show Hispanic voters that I care about them enough to hire a live human to get my message right."
Lale's Spanish page highlights the economy, focusing on saving the city money, filling abandoned shopping districts, and removing barriers to starting a business. Lale says, "The local unemployment rate has been officially in double digits for three years. A lot of Hispanic families in southern Nevada have been impacted by the implosion of the construction industry, and a lot of workers from that industry have the skills and tools to take control and start their own businesses. It would benefit Hispanic families if we can get artificial barriers out of their way. I think Hispanic voters will like my message."
The Henderson municipal election primary is April 2, 2013, and the general June 4, 2013.
