Enterprise Social Network Yammer Acquired By Microsoft

The web giant Microsoft has officially acquired the cloud based Enterprise Social Network Yammer for 1.2 billion dollars to boost up its competency in Office 365, SharePoint and other Microsoft collaborative products.

According to the reports, Microsoft has finally purchased the cloud based enterprise social network, Yammer for 1.2 billion US dollars in cash. The acquisition is expected to boost up Microsoft's enterprise social networking services in Office 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, Skype, Lync and other such Microsoft collaborated products.

According to a statement made by Microsoft, the current CEO David Sacks will persist to lead Yammer team under the leadership of President Kurt DelBene, and Yammer will continue to develop as a standalone service. The Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer also stated that this new development will enable Microsoft to develop business related technologies that have been a demand from the users so long.

He added that Yammer offers world class enterprise social networking service for Microsoft's ever growing list of cloud services, and this acquisition will also appeal the users to make a shift towards the new cloud environment, where the future of the industry lies. The Yammer CEO, Sacks believes that the deal will open new avenues for both the companies scaling heights and leading to massive productivity.

However reports reveal that the Enterprise Social Network, (ESN) Yammer provide features like that of Facebook and Twitter, exclusively meant for corporate use. It allows the employees to join specific groups and communities so as to keep other members informed of their activities into which they have been involved. It also includes features like, emailing, instant messaging, employee profiles, streaming of corporate activities, forums, discussion, micro blogging, idea generation software, joint document sharing and editing, tagging, rating and reviewing of content.

Yammer mentioned on its official website that the acquisition will continue to allow its users to access their social network privately and securely with its prime consideration on simplicity, innovation, and cross-platform experiences. Although the collaboration between Yammer and Microsoft was supposed to take place last month, but that failed to work out.
