Dr. Manmohan gets a ticket to Copenhagen

Online, December 1, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Hundreds of people signed on a ticket that Greenpeace bought to help Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh make up his mind to go to Copenhagen. Five activists delivered a ticket to the Prime Minister's Office today. It is an economy fare, on the AY22 flight from New Delhi to Helsinki and flight AY663 from Helsinki to Copenhagen. A letter, highlighting the demands and aspirations of the Indian as well as global citizens - A Fair, Ambitious and Binding Deal at Copenhagen, also accompanied the ticket.

192 nations will be meeting a week from now in Copenhagen to agree on a planet saving deal. 65 Heads of State have already confirmed their presence at this critical meeting. Chinese premiere, Mr Wen Jiabao, Mr Lula from Brazil, President Obama, Angela Merkel, Gordon Brown and many others have already confirmed their attendance. Dr Manmohan Singh is reported to have still not made up his mind.

Sighting the devastating impact climate change is causing in India, concerned citizens in a novel signature campaign signed off on the airline urging the Prime Minister to attend the Copenhagen climate summit later this month.

For the past one week activists in various cities across India were seen wearing Dr. Manmohan Singh masks asking people if he should be going to Copenhagen and the response was overwhelming as hundreds of people signed on to the copy of the ticket.

"I believe that Dr Singh needs to take personal responsibility to ensure a Fair Ambitious and Binding deal at Copenhagen. Its about the future of my generation and those to come" says Sharib Hussain, a 21 year old Delhite studying at Bhagat Singh College, a Greenpeace volunteer who was present at the ticket delivery today.
