Dr. Brian Harley Completes External Fixation Fellowship

Village Podiatry Centers surgeon, Dr. Brian Harley, was selected for advanced surgical training at the prestigious Ilizerov Scientific Centre in Siberia, Russia.

Podiatric surgeon, Dr. Brian Harley, was recently selected as one of 15 U.S. surgeons to participate in an advanced external fixation fellowship at the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre in Siberia.

The one-week course was held at the centre's 800-bed orthopedic hospital in the city of Kurgan. Surgeons received instruction in external fixation for congenital deformities and traumatic fractures. The centre is the recognized training site for developing the Ilizarov method of external fixation. This method utilizes a specialized set of hardware to hold bones and soft-tissues allowing correction of a deformity or providing stabilization until healing has occurred.

Dr. Harley is board certified in forefoot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. His special areas of interest include sports injuries and trauma to the foot, ankle and lower leg. Dr. Harley is a staff surgeon with Village Podiatry Centers of Georgia and sees patients in the Duluth office located at 3655 Howell Ferry Road.
