Darksword Armory Lends a Hand to Animal Rescue Network

On Sunday March 2, 2014, Eyal Azerad and two employees of Darksword Armory, a leading North American sword manufacturer in Montreal, Quebec, spent the day donating their time to the Animal Rescue Network, a no-kill animal shelter located in Montreal.

On the first weekend of March, Eyal Azerad and two employees of Darksword Armory, a leading North American sword manufacturer in Montreal, Quebec, spent the day donating their time to the Animal Rescue Network, a no-kill animal shelter located in Montreal. Over the course of the day, they constructed a special room for sick cats, where the felines could eat a special diet without feeling trapped.

This is not the first time Darksword has assisted the Animal Rescue Network. In December 2013, Darksword began to sell leftover sword hilts, with all proceeds going to the charity. To date, Darksword has raised almost $2,000 for the shelter. To continue raising funds in the near future, Darksword is planning to sell t-shirts off of their website, with all proceeds going to the Animal Rescue Network. Eyal Azerad, founder and president of Darksword Armory, has also placed himself and his staff on-call for anything the shelter may require.

For over 10 years, the Animal Rescue Network has taken in abandoned and abused cats, nursing them back to health and finding them good foster homes. The shelter currently has around 400 cats under its care, with regular adoption days on weekends. The next two adoption days are March 8 and 22, 2014.

The Animal Rescue Network receives no government funding, and instead relies on donations and volunteers to continue its operations. Donated money goes towards providing the shelter's cats with veterinary care, food, and maintaining the shelter's premises. The Animal Rescue Network offers a sponsorship program for those who want to help out but cannot afford to adopt an animal, where the sponsor selects a cat and provides a small monthly contribution.

"Every single month, they're struggling to pay the rent," said Eyal Azerad. "It's 100% donations. It was great to be there and help out, and I wish more people would."

Darksword Armoury (www.darksword-armory.com) is a Montreal-based production sword company, and one of the few North American sword companies that makes its blades through traditional bladesmithing techniques. Founded in 1996 by Eyal Azerad, it has sold thousands of swords to customers worldwide, as well as provided swords to multiple media projects, including Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed II and Hollywood movies such as Timeline and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

The Animal Rescue Network (http://www.animalrescuenetwork.org/) is Montreal's largest no-kill animal shelter, run entirely by volunteers. Sponsorship information can be found at http://www.animalrescuenetwork.org/info/display?PageID=990, and donations by cheque can also be made to the Animal Rescue Network, P.O. Box 32203, St-Andre station, Montreal (Quebec), H2L 4Y5, Canada.
