Cosmetic and Skincare Ingredients Questionable for Human Application & During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a time when woman should particularly focus more on the quality of products you use.
June 25, 2014 (Newswire.com) - If you haven't been paying attention to what you are putting on your face and body, just remember that your choice now influences the safety of your unborn child.
During pregnancy, you may find that your skin becomes more sensitive so it's best to avoid potentially irritating and drying ingredients which can be found in products which are alcohol based and highly perfumed.
Here is a non-comprehensive list of ingredients that studies have shown to cause allergic reaction or pose health hazards. Remember, if it's not safe for non-pregnant woman then it's of course NOT safe for a pregnant woman.
- Words ending in "paraben"
- formaldehyde donor preservatives
- DMDM hydantoin
- Imidazolidinyl urea
- DEA, MEA, TEA
- chemical sunscreens
- artificial color and fragrance (known irritants)
- propylene glycol
- para-phenylenediamine (PPD) (found in hair color)
- sodium lauryl sulfate/SLS (foaming agents found in cleansing products like shampoo and soap)
Phthalates are added to artificial fragrance to make the scent last longer. They are often not listed on labels as only the label "fragrance" or "parfum" is required. Exposure to phthalates during pregnancy has also been linked to ADHD in children.
With the above in mind, we strongly suggest you start watching on the ingredients listed on products that you are using, for the sake of your baby and yourself. We suggest safe and effective skin or personal care products from Bioevolve, Synergie, and Ilike which do not contain the above list of harmful chemicals.
