Actor Carl Payne makes an international crossover from American television to Nollywood film
August 1, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Carl Payne's success in television as an actor, producer and director will now cross over into film as he makes his movie debut in "When One Door Closes." With Atlanta becoming the basis for Nollywood entertainment, the movie, filmed in Atlanta, will premiere in Atlanta this Sunday, August 4, at the Plaza Theater.
"When One Door Closes" tells a story of trials, tribulation and triumph, as Tunde, a prestigious Nigerian doctor leaves his practice to immigrate to the United States in search of the American dream only to eventually discover that the "grass is not always greener on the other side." Tunde meets a friend, played by Carl Payne, who introduces him to Rose, whom he marries to obtain a green card to legally live in the United States. This situational marriage becomes complicated when Rose begins to fall for Tunde. Tunde later encounters Alechi, an African attorney with trials of her own. Alechi's husband, Emeka, suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, causing him to often act out violently. The story of Tunde intertwined with the lives of those he encounters makes for a film filled with drama and life lessons of overcoming and conquering the struggles of life and learning to close one door before opening another.
Filmmakers and actors will join for a very unique premiere this Sunday with a 20-minute Q&A following the film. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions to a panel, including stars Van Vicker and Chet Anekwe. Questions asked will pertain to the social and political themes of the film, centering on the film's characters and issues of immigration, new laws, and psychological issues related to mental illness in the African American community.
The Atlanta premiere will be followed by premieres in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 9th, Houston, Texas on August 10th, and Charlotte, North Carolina on August 11th.
