Allmand Boats helps Tsunami hit fishermen

Tsunami tragedy and the aid provided from Allmand Boats.

In the year 2004, millions of fishermen across Sri Lanka were hit by a tsunami, devastating their livelihood. But with years of experience, superior technology and zeal to serve the masses, Allmand Boats stepped in to revive tsunami hit fishing industry. Allmand Boats imparted US technology and job training to the boat builders in fiberglass boat fabrication. The Sri Lankan fishermen sought expertise from Allmand Boats in building and designing boats to fish tuna.

In February 2005, Todd Allmand went to Sri Lanka as a guest of Parliament and helped in engineering large tuna line fishing boats with a capacity of 50 metric tons. As the executive director of the marine vocational technology, Todd Allmand helped in uplifting the skills and technology used in small ship building. Allmand Boats also brought modern technology to the local boat builders and to Blue Star Marine after the tsunami of 12/26/2004. The mission to rebuild the lost fishing fleet with modern design technology and development of pleasure boat production for export to the USA for the first time was accomplished with expertise from Allmand Boats.
