Actress's Real-Life Custody Battle Mirrors That Of The Subject Tf Ground-Breaking Documentary

Kelly Rutherford is fighting to regain custody of her two children from her ex-husband Daniel Giersch. Holly Collins, subject of "No Way Out But One" once fought the same fight.

Actress and mother of two Kelly Rutherford will be featured on "Katie" with Katie Couric this Friday, April 19, 2013 at 3:00pm EST. On the show, Ms. Rutherford will discuss her heated and ongoing child custody battle. Ms. Rutherford had custody of her children taken away from her and granted to her former husband who now lives with the children in France.

Unfortunately, this is not the first nor will it be the last case of this nature. This instance just goes to show that not even celebrities are immune to family courts failing to protect our nation's children. Ms. Rutherford's story is harrowingly reminiscent of the one told in the award-winning documentary, "No Way Out But One".

"No Way Out But One" is the story of an American mother fighting against all odds to protect her children and herself. Filmmaker Garland Waller captures the disturbing truth about the broken US family court system in her film. Ms. Collins had her children taken away from her and full custody was given to her abusive ex-husband. In spite of Holly and her children's pleas, the court ruled in favor of their abuser.

"No Way Out But One" is based on extensive interviews with Holly and her family, medical professionals, lawyers, and child advocates. Filming has been completed in The Netherlands, Boston, Washington DC, and New York. The producers have culled through thousands of pages of court and medical records, unpublished journals, news reports, family photos and videos. The producers also submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to the FBI for Holly's files, which resulted in the identification of nearly 1,000 pages of material.

"No Way Out But One" seeks to expose the injustice propagated daily by the American family court system whose duty to protect our children frequently goes unfulfilled.

The documentary "No Way Out But One" is available now through Passion River Films.

Ms. Rutherford will be the keynote speaker at the Battered Mothers Custody Conference in Washington DC on Friday, May 10.
