Abdul-Malik To Give Graduate Theological Foundation Graduation Address

Graduate Theological Foundation faculty member Shaykh Ibrahim Abdul-Malik will give the Graduation Address on May 3. The annual event, which will be held at the Century Center's Discovery Ball Room in South Bend, celebrates the most recent group of individuals receiving advanced degrees from the Foundation.

Dr. Abdul-Malik is the El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz Professor of American Muslim History and Culture. He earned a doctorate in Science and Education at Harvard University in 1971 and doctorate in Islamic Studies from GTF in 2007.

Dr. Abdul-Malik spent a quarter-century working in the New York City School system as a teacher, principal and member of the Board of Examiners, and 10 years as an adjunct professor at City University of New York.

Subsequently, he worked for UNESCO as a Science Advisor, setting up and leading the first junior college in the Islamic Republic of Maldives, South Asia. He is currently a faculty member at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Dr. Abdul-Malik co-founded the Imams Council of New York, and served as a Volunteer Disaster Chaplain with American Red Cross in the wake of 9/11. He regularly serves at interfaith events seeking to improve relations among Muslims, Jews and Christians.
