A Safer Lasik Comes to Town!

Lasik has helped millions of people all over the world reduce their dependence on glasses

Lasik has helped millions of people all over the world reduce their dependence on glasses. Just when one could not stop marvelling at how one can get rid of one's glasses in a few minutes with Lasik, Femto Lasik came onto the scene which is safer and gentler.

In traditional Lasik, a blade is used to create a flap on the cornea (outermost transparent layer of the eye). Then this flap is opened out and laser applied to reshape the cornea. Thus, Lasik helps correct near / far sightedness. Femto Lasik, a new technology uses a femtosecond laser (a specialised laser) to create a flap. Thus, the need for a blade is entirely eliminated, making this surgery absolutely bladeless.

Why should one choose Femto Lasik over Lasik?
The Femto laser creates an evenly shaped flap of uniform thickness in the centre as well as the periphery, whatever is the curve of each patient's cornea. This reduces flap-related complications to an absolute minimum.

Also, the incision made during the Bladeless Lasik is computer calibrated which ensures more precision. Hence, this allows for treatment of thinner corneas than with LASIK.
If you have higher refractive errors and were not sure how far Lasik could have helped you, Femto Lasik is the surgery of choice for you.

Femto Lasik ensures a faster recovery. Also, the sensation of a foreign body in your eye, which may be felt after Lasik is reduced with Femto Lasik.

Dr Vandana Jain, Lasik Surgeon at Advanced Eye Hospital, Mumbai sums up, "Femto Lasik has not yet caught on with the public, as there are very few centres in Navi Mumbai that offer Femto Lasik. However, popular or not, the fact remains that it is safer, more precise and less risky as compared to Lasik."
