Word Awareness And Zervaas Enterprises Team Up To Translate Transit Times App

California translation company and Australian app developer make public transport timetables available in Spanish for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

Originally conceived and programmed in English, Transit Times uses an open data feed called General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) provided by each featured city in order to coordinate information on buses, trains, subways, trams, and ferries.

So far Transit Times is available in Adelaide and Perth in Australia, Auckland and Wellington in New Zealand, Philadelphia, Miami and Austin in the United States, and Vancouver in Canada. More cities will be added from time to time.

"Our Spanish translator Patricia Fierro was in charge of this project, since this is her specialty area," says Word Awareness President and CEO Rafa Lombardino. "She has a Master's Degree in Computer Sciences that, combined with her certified language skills, allows her to translate program interfaces and websites easily to address the Spanish-speaking audience. In other words, having a background in programming herself, she can assure that the message is translated clearly and the coding is left untouched."

Word Awareness has provided translations for other apps, including mobile games and language-learning programs that use flashcards and audio for vocabulary memorization.
