December 19, 2012 (Newswire) - The Bad Intentions has been riding a wave of global buzz, recognition, and excitement after winning "The Golden Swan" for outstanding filmmaking in The FreeStyle Life Film Exhibition 2012, and now Rosario Garcia-Montero's film is on the road to Oscar. With each country only being allowed to submit one film to the Academy for Best Foreign Language Film, Rosario Garcia-Montero's feature directorial debut, The Bad Intentions (Las Malas Intentciones), has been selected as the official foreign language film submission from Peru for the 2013 Academy Awards.
The Bad Intentions premiered in 2011 at the Berlin International Film Festival and took home that same year best Peruvian film at the Lima International Film Festival, along with best Latin American film at the Mar del Plata Festival. Peru has not had a film nominated for an Oscar since The Milk of Sorrow, directed by Claudia Llosa in 2010. The FreeStyle Life Film Exhibition prides itself on being able to provide international awareness for these high quality and thought provoking films and projects through their platform. Tommy Swanhaus, a founder of the premier international exhibition, says "what I love about The Bad Intentions is that everything is beautifully executed from the cinematography to the talented cast to the intimacy of the story".
Swanhaus said "The Bad Intentions exemplifies what great filmmaking is all about. Garcia-Montero's craft for filmmaking not only transcends cultures, but is authentic to the turbulent historical period for South America and Garcia-Montero's own personal story growing up in Peru during the tumultuous 1980s."
The Bad Intentions stars Fátima Buntinx, Katerina D'Onofrio, Paul Vega, Kani Hart, Melchor Gorrochategui and Jean Paul Strauss. The Bad Intentions is a life-affirming and humorous journey into both the reality and imagination of a 9-year-old, unfazed by the terrorist attacks shaking the country of Peru. The film is available through FreeStyle Life's premium platform.
