The 26th World Youth Day, from August 16th to 21st 2011, in Madrid in Spain.

One could trace the famed World Youth Day back to 1984.1984, the year when the International Jubilee of Youth happened in Saint-Peter's Square in Rome on Palm Sunday. On that very special day, 300 000 young Catholics showed up.

This year, 2011, the famed town of Madrid in Spain welcomes the 26th World Youth Day, from August 16th to 21st 2011. Hundreds of thousands of young people aged 16 to 30, from all over the world, are expected to attend.

1987: The World Youth Day in Buenos Aires in Argentina: 1 million young people.

1991: The World Youth Day in Tchenstochova in Poland: 1 million and a half young people.

1993: The World Youth Day in Denver in the United States of America: 500 000 young people.

1995: The World Youth Day in Manila in the Philippines: 4 million young people.

1997: The World Youth Day in Paris in France: close to 1 million young people.

2000: The World Youth Day in Rome in Italy : close to 2 million young people.

2002: The World Youth Day in Toronto in Canada: 800 000 young people.

2005 : The World Youth Day in Cologne in Germany : over 1 million young people.

2008 : The World Youth Day in Sydney in Australia : 450 000 young people.
