San Diego Self Storage Provides Support to CA State Games

San Diego Self Storage (SDSS) is donating the use of a storage unit for the second consecutive year to the California State Games (CSG), a statewide amateur sports festival that is a grass roots program of the United States Olympic Committee. The mission of the Games is to promote and nurture the health, education, and well being of residents by managing a high quality amateur sports event that encourages community participation and provides an Olympic experience. The summer games will take place at 23 competition venues in San Diego from July 8 - 11, 2010. Athlete check-in is available at the Town and Country Hotel on Thursday, July 8th and Friday, July 9th, the Opening Ceremonies will be held on the evening of Friday, July 9th at Qualcomm Stadium, followed by an athlete party at Tidelands Park in Coronado on the evening of Saturday, July 10th.

The 10-foot-by-15-foot storage unit donated by SDSS houses a large quantity of equipment and supplies that are used by the Games seasonally for the summer and winter competitions, particularly during the Opening Ceremonies. At these ceremonies, approximately 10,000 athletes participate with over 25,000 spectators in attendance. Such items include: baseballs, softballs and the buckets to hold them in that are donated; logo merchandise sold at the events; 10-foot long banners for each sporting event that are carried by the athletes during the ceremonies; stage materials for entertainment and the torch and caldron that are used in similar fashion to the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics.

According to Lauren Brosamer at CSG, "We are so grateful to SDSS for providing this storage space for us---we are headquartered in a very small office as we are a non-profit, and would otherwise have nowhere to store these items. We looked for a long time for donated storage space by talking with several storage companies and were eventually put in contact with the SDSS Manager, Sandi Neusch, at Sorrento Valley last year. She was more than happy to help us and has renewed the donation for another year. We feel very fortunate to have found the support we were seeking in SDSS, who is a true community partner."
