In honor of Earth Day, Roadfly, the premiere automotive resource specializing in car reviews, today announced the 2012 Green Car of the Year as well as its list of the ten best green cars for 2012. The list was compiled by the editors of Roadfly and represents vehicles which were new for the 2012 model year. Vehicles were judged against their peers on a number of criteria including fuel efficiency, driving dynamics, and environmental impact.

"MPG isn't the only criteria used to determine the best green cars. We evaluate driving characteristics, cargo capacity, and even the Manufacturers green initiatives," said Roadfly Founder and Publisher, Charlie Romero.

Consumers look to experts like the editors at Roadfly when making new car purchasing decisions. In fact, consumers have become so reliant on the Internet that Roadfly video car reviews are watched more than 1 million times each month. "People want to know which is the best green car for their individual needs and lifestyle and that's the answer we provide with our Green Car of the Year and Ten Best Green Cars awards," continued Romero.

The best green cars of 2012 are:

#10 - 2012 Hyundai Accent. Hyundai earned a spot thanks to its class-leading 138 hp engine and 40 MPG highway fuel efficiency rating.

#9 - 2012 Subaru Impreza. At 36 MPG, this is the most fuel efficient all-wheel-drive vehicle offered for sale in the U.S.

#8 - 2012 Chevrolet Sonic. The 1.4L turbo is fun and frugal while achieving 40 MPG highway.

#7 - 2012 Mazda3 SkyActiv. Mazda introduced amazing new engine technology with SkyActiv. The sporty Mazda3 is a fun-to-drive 40 MPG highway compact sedan.

#6 - 2012 Chrysler 300. One of our favorite sedans, this traditional rear-wheel-drive American luxury sedan now clocks in at 31 MPG on the highway!

#5 - 2012 Audi A6. Audi's all new 2012 A6 sips gas at 33 MPG on the highway with its 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine.

#4 - 2012 BMW 328i Sedan. BMW's legendary driving dynamics and 34 MPG highway. We're sold! In eco mode expect even higher MPG.

#3 - 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas. Honda's perennial best-seller offers drivers the chance to burn clean, cheap, domestically supplied natural gas instead of gasoline. This is what we should all be using to fuel our cars.

#2 - 2012 Toyota Prius c. The newest member of the Toyota Prius family is the smaller, sportier Prius c. The baby Prius gets a very impressive 53 MPG highway.

#1 - The winner of the Roadfly 2012 Green Car of the Year award is the 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI. The new Passat was chosen for its combination of spaciousness, comfort, and 43 MPG highway fuel economy.
