Strawberry Communications founder and owner Johanna Baker-Dowdell has launched a six-week online group PR program to help business owners generate their own publicity.
November 4, 2012 (Newswire) - When "...nearly 55% of stories analysed were driven by some form of public relations," (Source: Crikey - Over half of your news is spin: http://www.crikey.com.au/2010/03/15/over-half-your-news-is-spin/) business owners should be asking themselves if their stories fall into that category and, if not, what are they going to do about it, Johanna asked.
"If business owners aren't selling their story to the media, their competition definitely is," she explained.
"Instead of getting mad at seeing your competitor's face smiling out at you from the pages of your local newspaper, make sure you're the one telling the story next time."
Make Me a Star starts on Tuesday, November 13 and includes everything business owners need to generate publicity for their business, with six one-hour online learning sessions and six one-hour online Q&A sessions covering:
• Building a media contact list including print, online and broadcast
• Contacting media outlets
• Creating an editorial calendar
• Writing media pitches, press releases, articles and case studies
• Advice on drawing everything together for a complete PR strategy
"Working with a PR agency can cost thousands of dollars, and money is something small businesses don't have an endless supply of. Generating PR for themselves is a great way to lessen the marketing spend, but more importantly gets the person who knows the most about the business - its creator and owner - to do the talking," Johanna said.
Johanna has more than 18 years experience in the media industry in Australia and the UK, working on both sides as a journalist and PR consultant.
The total cost for the six-week Make Me a Star training program and group support is just AU$297.
