VIMtrek Brings Innovation to New Design Show

Office SpacesTM airing on Lifetime® Television - (US primetime) Sept. 24, 2015 7am ET|PT

VIMtrek will be strutting their stuff as the visualization technology used on the new design show Office SpacesTM airing on Lifetime® Television. VIMtrek has been given the opportunity to showcase how cutting edge technology can be utilized throughout the full design process. With the use of virtual reality goggles (Samsung Gear VR) and VIMtrek, host and interior designer, Kalyn Rothaus, was able to virtually experience a BIM (building information modeling) generated model. This is a new way for designers and clients to experience spaces within the building, collaborate on the design, and visualize any conflicts there may be all before the first brick has been laid.

When designing anything, it is very important that the designer, client, and contractors are all on the same page. VIMtrek represents a solution that can help enable a smoother workflow and coordination between all parties involved for a better understanding of the project. The data driven BIM model still contains all of the information and is accessible while viewing the model by simply pointing and clicking on a component. With VIMtrek, the team is able to freely maneuver around within this environment and access any information about an object within the BIM model.  This makes it easier for the team to coordinate products being used within the project. “VIMtrek eliminates the need to rely solely on 2D architectural drawings,” said Donald Baret, Producer of Office Spaces. “For our show, the 3D model was a great way to introduce the audience to the new space and highlight the contractors and suppliers we are working with.”

Kalyn Rothaus, host of Office Spaces and interior designer for this project, views the virtual model of the BrandStar Offices in Pompano Beach, FL on the show with the use of VIMtrek software. “The VIMtrek model was easy to navigate after a brief tutorial!” stated Kalyn. For their purposes, they are “also using the model in conjunction with a SmartKapp IQ board which is touch screen compatible. Navigating the model via touch screen is a lot of fun and goes over well in presentations!” When asked if she felt like she was immersed in the space and if it felt realistic, she stated, “One of the executives I presented to said she felt like she was walking through the space!  The model is much better than a traditional rendering because the client doesn’t have to use much imagination.” Kalyn seems enthusiastic about VIMtrek and understands how VIMtrek can assist in the coordination of projects and translating design intentions to the client and the team. “The next project that I work on, I plan to engage VIMtrek in the early stages. I can see the value in utilizing such software from the starting point.”
