Trio Martinů certainly have a long history.  First formed in 1990 at the Prague Conservatory  and with the same line up of pianist Petr Jiříkovský, violinist Pavel Šafařík  and cellist Jaroslav Matějka, Trio Martinů have developed their sound and are one of the most loved Czech classical performers.  With live performances in nearly every part of Europe, including their recent UK debut, the ensemble have announced that they will continue touring into autumn with shows set throughout the Netherlands in October and November.  The anticipation surrounding these performances is very high.

“We are very happy to continue performing for our fans and supporters,” commented a spokesperson for the ensemble.  “Our recent performances in the UK were very well embraced and reviewed and we look forward to continuing in this direction with our coming shows in South Korea, and of course the Netherlands, where we have played many times and always love the experience.  We're also happy to say we have been invited back to the UK as well, and will be working that out soon.”

The members of the trio, in addition have all had careers as orchestra players at very prestigious institutions including the Prague Philharmonic and Prague Symphony Orchestra.

Trio Martinů have won a long list of awards stretching from their earlier years to date.  Some of these highlights include:  Runners up in the international competition in Trepani, Italy (1991);  runners up in the “International Contest of Chamber Ensembles “ at Heerlen, The Netherlands (1992), which they later won in 1995; and  winners of the "Best Czech Ensemble" award of the Czech Chamber Music Society (1992)

Since 2000 the trio have focused on international tours and festivals that have taken them across Europe and Asia.

In addition to Czech composers, Trio Martinů perform favourite programmes from Haydn, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Beethoven.  A full list of programme proposals can be found on their very active website. Reviews of their performances continue to be overwhelmingly positive and supportive.

A writer at the popular classical music website Planet Hugill, recently remarked, “For their UK debut performance at Queens Gate Terrace on 18 February 2015, the Prague-based Trio Martinů chose the substantial pairing of Dvorak's first piano trio, the Trio in B major, Op.21, and Schubert's last, the Piano Trio in E flat major, Op.100. The group's players, Pavel Safarik (violin), Jaroslav Matejka (cello) and Petr Jirikovsky (piano), have been playing together since 1993 (the group was founded in 1990) so clearly Britain has been missing out on some very fine chamber music playing and it was good to be able to hear the group finally, and especially in such an intimate setting.”
