Spain's First Ideal Church of Scientology Mission Opens Its Doors in Valencia

In the City of Arts and Sciences, where Spain's historic splendor melds gracefully with the avant-garde architecture of the new millennium, the ribbon falls on the Ideal Scientology Mission of Valencia in classic Spanish style.

As the festive strains of Flamenco melody filled the air, dignitaries joined Scientologists and their guests from throughout Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Bilbao, Vitoria, Murcia) and Portugal to celebrate the dedication of the Ideal Scientology Mission of Valencia, November 28, marking a milestone—the opening of the first Ideal Mission in the nation.

Scientology Missions form the vanguard of the Scientology religion, providing the full array of basic and introductory Scientology services and Scientology auditing (spiritual counseling). The Mission of Valencia is designed to serve as the physical embodiment of Scientology technology in helping all to attain spiritual freedom.

"Our humanitarian programs are yours," he said, describing the scope of Church-supported initiatives addressing drug abuse, human rights and values. And he invited one and all to visit the Mission to "find out about Scientology and embark on the adventure of our spiritual technology."

Ivan Arjona, President Church of Scientology Spain

Joining master of ceremonies Ms. Delmi Garcia, Executive Director of the Valencia Mission, was the President of the National Church of Scientology of Spain, Mr. Ivan Arjona; Mr. José de Lamo, Director General of Equality in Diversity of the Valencia Government; Mr. José Antonio Ranz, of the Pluralism and Coexistence Foundation of the Ministry of Justice; Mr. Ricardo Garcia Garcia, Director of Religious Affairs of Spain (Ret.); and Mr. Luis Alberto Alarcon, president of the Life Foundation Green Ecological Group.

A prominent voice for civil rights in the Region of Valencia, Mr. José de Lamo works to create and implement policies to ensure zero discrimination. He addressed those attending, saying, “Our regional government has mandated that the diversity of Valencia not only be maintained but strengthened. Today we speak about diversity and respect for beliefs—respect for people of any faith.  Your Church is part of our interfaith dialogue. For more than three decades, you have carried out social programs, raised awareness of human rights and worked to bring happiness to your members and the community.”

Mr. José Antonio Ranz has worked with the national government for nearly a decade, strengthening the rights of all religions in Spain. “We are particularly pleased to be joining you today … to recognize your great achievement and expansion,” he said. “On behalf of our Foundation it is my honor to convey our best wishes and support. We are here to work with you so people of all faiths may practice their beliefs freely. You are helping us strengthen pluralism and social cohesion, showing the benefit that faith can bring to every part of our culture…

In his career in the Ministry of Justice and as a professor of religious freedom, Mr. Ricardo Garcia Garcia directed and introduced regulations that improved equal treatment for all religions.  For these and his many other accomplishments, he was recognized by the National Church of Scientology of Spain with the Church’s Religious Freedom Award for 2014.

“You have helped many people in Valencia and throughout Spain to fight and win the battle against the blight of drugs, which has been and is still a nightmare for Spanish families,” he said. “I also thank you for your work in support of human rights…. Working for the benefit of all people and bringing values of coexistence is always needed in Spanish society. Each of us, from our own religious beliefs, must work toward that to have a better society—more respectful, more united, more humane and with common values.”

A leader of the Spanish black community, Mr. Luis Alberto Alarcona played a crucial role in bringing about a watershed parliamentary decision recognizing the legacy of Spanish people of African descent and new policies to safeguard their future.

“Experience has taught me it is social organizations bringing the fight to every echelon of our society that actually delivers real impact,” he said. “And standing ever so prominently among these organizations is the Church of Scientology. The day I found you and learned what your Founder did to give rights to my descendants was the day I knew I had once more been blessed. Through your educational work you have the power to teach and impart knowledge to make real change for our society, and that is something for which every citizen can be thankful!”

Mr. Ivan Arjona summed up the Mission’s commitment to Valencia. “Our humanitarian programs are yours,” he said, describing the scope of Church-supported initiatives addressing drug abuse, human rights and values. And he invited one and all to visit the Mission to “find out about Scientology and embark on the adventure of our spiritual technology.”

Visitors to the Valencia Mission are welcome to visit the Public Information Display, featuring multimedia presentations of the basic beliefs and practices of Dianetics and Scientology as well as the life and legacy of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.

As an Ideal Church of Scientology Mission, Valencia is equipped with every facility needed to provide the full array of introductory Scientology services. These include the popular Life Improvement Courses through which anyone may find workable solutions to common challenges of everyday life—how to improve a marriage, successfully raise children, increase personal motivation, set and achieve goals, and many others.

The new Mission also offers seminars on a wide range of topics. The Hubbard Dianetics Seminar is based on Mr. Hubbard’s watershed work Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, the best-selling book that reveals the hidden source of one’s nightmares, unreasonable fears and irrational behavior—the reactive mind—and how to conquer it.

The Mission also provides spiritual counseling, known as auditing, and the Purification Program, developed by Mr. Hubbard to free individuals from the mental and spiritual damage caused by drugs and toxins.

The Scientology religion was founded by author and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard. The first Church of Scientology was formed in Los Angeles in 1954, and the religion has expanded to more than 11,000 Churches, Missions and affiliated groups globally, with millions of members in 167 countries.
