Provocative New Novel Turns 50 Shades on Its Head

A new novel is raising some eyebrows for its portrayal of women in a position of power over men.

In Raquel River’s “The Lady’s Will,” a shy librarian journeys into her aunt’s secret world of empowered women. The book resonates with those turned off by the misogynistic slant of books like 50 Shades of Grey, and who desire to read about strong, confident women in charge of their lives and their men.

Initial reviews praise the main character’s transformation from a meek young woman to a lady filled with self-confidence, calling it a thrilling read. Particularly provocative is the realistic and candid portrayal of female-led relationships through the eyes of a novice in the lifestyle.

When asked what inspired “The Lady’s Will,” Ms. Rivers responded, “There is a blind spot in society and the media regarding female-led relationships. We’ve seen the LGBT rights movement take fire; it’s time for the kink movement to be added to that list: LGBTK.”
