Onyx Beacon Launches Remote Batch Configuration for Large iBeacon Fleets and Infrastructures
This technical feature is the first of its kind at global level and brings important benefits, saving time and workforce costs
Cluj Napoca, Romania, May 7, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Onyx Beacon, a leading provider of iBeaconTM complete technical solutions, has announced today the release of a new technical feature, which allows users to remotely modify or update the entire configuration of large iBeacon fleets and infrastructures already deployed. At the same time, the new technical capability of the Onyx Beacon solution offers the possibility to easily and simultaneously define and execute batch configurations, using simple and logical settings in the CMS.
Through this new feature, the owners of large iBeacon fleets (counting dozens, hundreds or even thousands of devices) can implement new identities and technical settings for each different beacon or for the entire infrastructure, in a safe and secure mode, without leaving their offices. The one and only resource needed is the infrastructure manager, who will operate all the desired changes and updates at his desk, using the Onyx Beacon cloud-based CMS.

All the changes requested by the manager in the CMS, regarding the beacon’s identity (UUID, major and minor codes) or the beacon’s technical performance (working frequency and active power), are immediately transmitted to the Onyx Beacon SDK integrated in the owner’s mobile application and installed on end-users mobile devices. The next data exchange is made instantly at the very moment when this first mobile device enters in the area of the targeted beacon. Each iBeacon receives his new identity and performance coordinates, updates his status and confirms the changes by sending his new status to the SDK, through the same mobile device. In the last phase, the SDK confirms the successful updates to the CMS, the cloud CMS notifies the fleet manager and starts working with the new iBeacon identity and configuration.

The entire operation is fast, safe and effective and it is not threatening the data or the configuration security, because all the necessary information is transferred instantly, over-the-air, not being stored on the intermediary mobile devices. This new technical feature is responsive and shows to the fleet manager, through the cloud-based CMS, the status of each beacon at any moment of the implementation. At the same time, the cloud CMS keeps a complete history record of all the settings and configurations and allows the infrastructure manager to compare the performances of different implemented configurations and to recall previous phases, when necessary.
