Nonprofits Receive $34.2 Million in Unemployment Claims Cost Savings with the Unemployment Services Trust (UST)

Through the support of a dedicated unemployment claims administrator, who files protests on behalf of nonprofit employers and attends hearings if there is an appeal, UST's nonprofit members experience more than $34.2 million in unemployment claims savings.

After helping nonprofits avoid unemployment claims overpayments and identify potential state errors, UST’s claims administrator has identified $34,270,677.51 in unemployment claims cost savings plus an additional $2 million in errors that are refunded to members.

Since 1983, 501(c)(3) employers have had the ability to opt out of the state unemployment tax system and instead pay dollar-for-dollar for their own unemployment claims through UST, a national nonprofit alternative to state unemployment taxes.

"With the total unemployment claims costs savings growing by nearly $2 million, we are thrilled that we can continue to help nonprofits maintain the funds they need to achieve their mission objectives."

Donna Groh, Executive Director

In addition to receiving access to cloud-based HR training and an online claims dashboard, UST members receive the added guidance of their state specific claims representative—helping them to reduce paperwork burdens and improve overall efficiency. Dedicated to monitoring nonprofits’ unemployment claims and providing their employees with the latest updates on unemployment laws, UST’s claims administrator helps keep more money within the nonprofit community.

“Just last year, our members experienced  significant savings due to their shortened claims payments, claims protest wins or hearing wins, as well as their annual audit,” said Donna Groh, Executive Director. “With the total unemployment claims costs savings growing by nearly $2 million, we are thrilled that we can continue to help nonprofits maintain the funds they need to achieve their mission objectives.”

501(c)(3) nonprofits with 10 or more employees can fill out a free Savings Evaluation and determine if their organization could benefit from the UST program. Those who enroll will receive instant access to expert unemployment claims advice.
