Nanotechnology to Find New Ways to Detect Pollution Emitting Particles

Nanotechnology has found new ways to detect polluting particles and contribute in controlling environment pollution

The development of nanotechnology is quite impressive and progressing towards accomplishing positive objectives. This technology has been implemented in many sectors, including the most critical ones like manufacturing, security and medicine to mention.  Till date the major improvements by implementing applications of nanotechnology have been duly recognized.

Pollution is a major concern of the world today; the increased numbers of industries are leading towards huge climate change due to industrial pollution.  Commercial enterprises frame a noteworthy piece of economy and they are developing at a gigantic rate, however what the organizations are disregarding is the polluting particles which they radiate.

The most common polluting agent in most of the industry is carbon monoxide, and with the help of nanotechnology it is now being possible to detect them in air ambience. New research performed by well-known research centers has come to a conclusion that with the help of nanotechnology certain environmental issues can be taken care of.

Researchers have used a sensor that contains copper oxide nanowires, with an additional coating of palladium particles to detect presence of carbon monoxide. Copper oxide is a semiconductor which is used for detecting the presence of any foreign particle.

How does it work?

According to the theory, when a semiconductor particle is attached with some foreign particles in high temperature settings, they show some changes in their electrical properties. Hence going by the theory when copper oxide was used on nanowires coated with palladium on an electrical circuit at a high temperature, researchers detected an increase in their electrical property due to the presence of carbon monoxide, which otherwise remains neutral if not interrupted by any other nanoparticle.

The nanoparticle disposition system can be further utilized for detecting various other gaseous presences. This can bring a significant change in controlling industrial pollution. Compared to the other gas detecting systems in use, applications of nanotechnology would be much cheaper and more effective.

It can be said that the future of nanotechnology seems to have a great potential in developing applications suiting the industrial need and keeping pollution in control by using various means
