Los Angeles, CA (May 11, 2015) – The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks along with and Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) announced today that, through the support of a new program called Shade America, a special partnership between The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and Murad, Inc., LaFayette Park will be the first location to receive a much needed shade structure. Shade America is a program that supports the building of shade structures, which provide protection from the sun’s harmful rays, in parks and playgrounds across America with the goal of shading one million children over the next five years.

The first structure will be donated to HOLA, in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, for installation on the field turf soccer field in LaFayette Park. The structure will provide urgently needed protection to thousands of members of the community. "It's so great to see the City of Los Angeles leading the nation in creating a safer outdoor environment for kids and residents living in the heart of Los Angeles and beyond. Thank you, Murad and the AAD for supporting a healthier and stronger community,” said Tony Brown, HOLA’s Executive Director.
