Mothering in Malaysia Just Got Easier - Thanks to MyBabysitter.my

Mothers in Malaysia are about to find hiring a babysitter as easy as ABC – thanks to a clever and unique new website which launched this week.

MyBabysitter.my allows parents and carers to post a babysitting job advert on the site for free then just sit back and wait for applicants. Alternatively they could speedily sift through a list of babysitters in their area seeking work.

The smart site – which brings parents and babysitters together online and for free – will save hours of soul-destroying searching for both categories. And it’s all the work of SAP consultant and mother Joyce Tan of Kuala Lumpur.

Joyce, 33, came up with the brainwave for the site after she became pregnant and worried about finding a babysitter. She was lucky that her mother-in-law offered to look after her now 18-month-old daughter. But she realised others might not be so lucky. Meanwhile, she saw her working mum friends were struggling to find a regular, trusted sitter for their children.

Joyce said: “Finding a babysitter can be pretty nerve-wracking and frustrating for any parent. You want someone you can trust and who your kids are going to enjoy being with. At MyBabysitter.my you can find and hire the right babysitter based on the most credible feedback possible - reviews and ratings from other parents.

"At the same time we want to make it easy for babysitters and parents to find each other. It just made complete sense to me to bring parents and potential babysitters together under the one roof, as it were. The site is Malaysia-wide but it’s possible to narrow your search down to particular cities and towns. You can also specify dates, times and even likes or dislikes.”

MyBabysitter.my also allows parents to outline exactly what they’re looking for in a babysitter and vice versa. For instance, as well as listing available hours babysitters can also mention other tasks they’d be willing to carry out such as laundry and ironing.

The site is particularly useful for finding a last-minute babysitter. And it’s not just babysitters that are available – nannies and even confinement lady posts can also be found.

Joyce said parents found the rating system gave them confidence when hiring a new sitter for the first time.

“When you employ a babysitter through a newspaper advert or a general online listing you’ve no idea really whether they are any good or not, you simply have to take their word for it and maybe check up on a referee that they provide. With MyBabysitter.my though you’ll be able to look up a number of reviews other parents have written on the site and, at the same time, check the babysitter’s profile. It’s also possible for parents to directly email any of the babysitters a question.”

All babysitters and parents on the site are aged 18 and over and have no relevant criminal record.  Both parties can also be assured that third party checks and verification of accounts and registration information is regularly undertaken.
