Qatar based UrbaCon Trading & Contracting UCC, headed by CEO Moataz Al Khayyat, recently completed the restoration and renovation of the iconic Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel in Doha, Qatar, in a record time of seven months. The extremely expedited renovation schedule was mandated in order that the hotel could open earlier this month in time to host the 35th Summit of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council on Dec. 9-10.

UCC's technical and engineering staff worked at record speed to restore the Doha Sheraton, the Middle East's first 5-star hotel, which was built in 1982 and which has witnessed numerous Arab conferences and GCC's Summits.

The qualifications of our working team and our ability to take on the huge responsibility for this project, along with the confidence and trust of the hotel's agent and his full cooperation, were factors that helped us to accomplish this mission in order to achieve the biggest and quickest restoration process in Qatar and the Gulf at large. We have rebuilt a great hotel, and UCC is very proud of our work.

Situated on the shores of West Bay and the sparkling blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, the landmark 5-star Sheraton Doha, called the Pyramid of the Gulf because of its distinctive pyramid profile, has been restored to its former glory, preserving its authenticity while now including cutting-edge amenities and facilities that cater to today's international traveler. The hotel is home to nine restaurants, bars and lounges, including Latino Steakhouse, one of the best South American restaurants in Doha; Al Shaheen, an authentic Lebanese restaurant; the truly Italian La Veranda and Irish Harp, Doha's popular Irish pub.

Close to Qatar Exhibition Center, the Arabian-themed Sheraton Doha is a preferred venue for high-level meetings, weddings and guests of state with 371 guest rooms including 64 luxurious suites, 26 halls and meeting spaces with a capacity of up to 5,000 persons. This family-friendly, oasis-like urban resort provides a perfect mix of facilities, including one of the finest recreation centers in the city, the Sheraton Fitness Center. An outdoor swimming pool, indoor and outdoor multi-purpose courts for tennis, squash, badminton, extensive landscaped gardens and a beach allow for the perfect balance between action and relaxation.

The UCC team managed the thousands of working, technical and engineering staff needed to complete the mammoth task of restoring this historic hotel in time for the GCC meeting earlier this month. The task of transporting workers to and from the heart of Doha, as well as expediting the flow of building materials from the port to the work site on a rush schedule, while also maintaining the quality of work product throughout the project was enormous.

Mr. Moataz Al Khayyat states, "The qualifications of our working team and our ability to take on the huge responsibility for this project, along with the confidence and trust of the hotel's agent and his full cooperation, were factors that helped us to accomplish this mission in order to achieve the biggest and quickest restoration process in Qatar and the Gulf at large. We have rebuilt a great hotel, and UCC is very proud of our work."
