This major project from Lucent Group, the strategic land site assembly and land development specialist, has been nominated for the Excellence in Planning for the Natural Environment category of the Awards for Planning Excellence.

The winners will be revealed on July 6th during an evening ceremony at the Pullman London St Pancras Hotel.

Lincolnshire Lakes is a major mixed-use development to the West of Scunthorpe, including 3,000 high quality new homes and two new village communities with excellent public amenities and leisure facilities. It is set to create 4,000 new jobs and improve local transport infrastructure.

The project is providing space for multifunctional green infrastructure, half of which is designed primarily to provide for biodiversity.

Features will include natural landscapes, wetlands, parkland, play areas and sport pitches, as well as measures to boost flood protection.

Charles Flynn, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Lucent Group, said: “From the outset at Lincolnshire Lakes we were determined to design communities that were at ease with their natural surroundings, and enhanced the bio-diversity of the area. We’re proud those efforts have been recognised by the planning experts at the RTPI.

“The project illustrates how the early involvement of an environmental team can respond to the challenges to secure the right siting, design and zoning, while still building in the flexibility to adapt to the future.”

Janet Askew, President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, added: “The shortlist reflects the very best planning projects, strategies and processes that are helping to make great places for people to live and work.

“The four finalists in the Excellence in Planning for the Natural Environment category, highlight exceptional examples of planning that have made an impact and brought considerable benefits. It will be a tremendous challenge picking individual category winners from such a high quality field.”

Lincolnshire Lakes has secured outline planning approval from North Lincolnshire Council. Located to the west of Scotter Road, the development will include a new primary school, youth centre, community centre, integrated health centre, and commercial space.

The two villages will benefit from local shops, amenities and public spaces, and both will be connected by a network of walking and cycling routes along tree-lined streets.
