"It is It was" oil paintings by Jade Chan

Projector Gallery is pleased to present recent work by Jade Chan featuring eleven oil paintings. Chan’s paintings explore the interplay of form, color, and shape. She combines her past experiences with the world she is experiencing now, infusing these realities with her own imagination. Growing up in a tumultuous, traditional, and strict Chinese household, in an open foreign country, the Netherlands, she always felt like an outsider, never belonging to one or the other culture. With her artwork, she refects those challenges, conficts, joys and sorrows . While her work is biographical, she strives to be subtle, and incorporates elements of her graphic design background to organize her emotions in her work. The exhibition shows her vocabulary of the organic and geometric with the help of grids or using free form. Her distinctive color palette, her figure and ground exploration, and her shifting perspectives will be all on view.

New York based artist Jade Chan was born and raised in Amsterdam and is of Chinese heritage. She received a BFA in Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in 2010. This is her first solo exhibition.

The Projector Gallery is located at 237 Eldridge Street, New York NY. The exhibit is open August 21 - August 30 2015, Tuesday through Wednesday noon to 4PM Thursday through Sunday, noon to 5PM. The  Opening Reception, will be Thursday, August 20, 7 to 9PM.
