Indonesian Film Festival screens at Griffith
Indonesian cinema celebrated at Griffith Film School, 1-8 March 2015, with screenings and events open to the public.
Brisbane, Queensland, March 5, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Griffith Film School (GFS) is hosting the Griffith Indonesian Film Festival (GIFF) this week with screenings of eight films, a master class and guest lecture from key players in the Indonesian film industry.
The festival is a celebration of Indonesian cinema and highlights a strengthening of ties between Griffith Film School and the creative arts scene in Asia.
The opening event on Sunday 1 March welcomed Guests of Honour, Indonesia’s foremost film artist, Garin Nugroho; emerging documentary filmmaker, Erick Est; and Pro Vice Chancellor (Arts, Education & Law), Professor Paul Mazerolle.
In addition to their strong association with the Asia Pacific Screen Lab, GFS have recently hosted several Asian cinema showcase events, including ‘Showcase Cinema: Korea’, and ‘Showcase Cinema: Philippines Now’.
GFS Head of School, Herman van Eyken, says the Griffith Film School has a strong interest in building connections with international peers, as well as a passion to ensure that students are offered inspiring collaborative environments.

Indonesian Film Festival – Aku Ingin Menciummu Sekali Saja! (I Want to Kiss You Once!)
The Indonesian Film Festival is being screened at the Griffith Film School, Dock Street, South Brisbane, from 1 – 8 March. All events are open to the public.
The Festival includes daily film screenings, and a master class by Garin Nogroho on Thursday 4 March at 4pm. Garin will talk about his career and influences, with particular focus on his idea of film as a medium for activism. He will also discuss the importance of location as a key aspect of his filmmaking style, share extracts from his work, and answer questions in a Q&A session.
Documentary filmmaker, Erick Est will also deliver a guest lecture on 6 March, 4pm.
