Head Coach Randy Rosen and Assistant Coach and former NHL Wing Jay Henderson Announce NEW Summer Hockey Camps for Girls and Boys

(SHERWOOD PARK, ALBERTA) For Bantam and Midget hockey players looking to take their game to the next level, RED LIGHT HOCKEY announces two new summer camps in July and August 2015.

The co-ed camps, designed for boys and girls ages 9 to 11 and 12 to 15, are hosted by respected and experienced head coach Randy Rosen, who currently coaches the Midget AA in Sherwood Park Kings Club, and former Boston Bruins player Jay Henderson (currently an assistant coach with the Kootenay Ice). Rosen has been teaching co-ed boys and girls in bantam, midget and pee-wee hockey skills for 15 years.

Together with five highly skilled players from Sherwood Park’s midget triple AAA hockey teams, the coaches will focus on an effective mix of unique drills based on years of professional and international hockey experience ensure innovative and proven methods of skill instruction.

Some of the ice-time and classroom instruction includes:

·        Skating techniques, agility, acceleration

·        Passing and shooting

·        Puck control, puck possession

·        Checking techniques and introduction of different systems for specialty teams, breakouts, neutral zone and face-offs

“Our hockey camps are much more hands on with a smaller ratio of coach to player,” says Randy Rosen, who has been coaching hundreds of kids for 15 years. “We also focus on fun as well as the drills—this builds off the skills and helps them put what they’ve learned into practice.”

Rosen states that kids learn best watching mentors. That’s why he brings in guest instructors, all teenagers, who play regularly with Midget Hockey teams in Sherwood Park.

“These players are phenomenal, and have been past participants of Red Light Hockey Camps,” he says. “They relate really well to the younger kids because they are closer in age. The players really enjoy the interaction as well. I pick all these kids to coach for a reason—they are amazing and promising performers.”

Head Coach Randy Rosen states that parents also receive benefits from the camps.

“They get to see their kids have a good time and develop as players and athletes much faster using our training,” he says. “As well, parents receive tip sheets to nurture and navigate the mental and physical health and development of their athlete.”
