The team at Harper Pierce & Co. have been working on a project aimed at developing leadership potential within the ranks of the company. The firm's director of operations reported stellar results so far.

​Continuous training and improvement is one of the company goals for the interactive marketing firm. Recently, this objective has taken the form of a leadership development program. According to the Director of Operations, this is based on the belief that everyone within the organization should be a leader in his or her own right.

She indicated that the training so far has been a huge success for the team. They’ve been leveraging different leadership styles, managing projects, and achieving success as a group. The Director of Operations stated that they have excelled in all these areas.

This is not the first company wide training at Harper Pierce & Co. Previous educational topics have included sales and marketing techniques, customer service, communication, and more. “I really believe in constant improvement,” said the Director. “We have to assume that others in the industry are doing the same. As such, we can only remain competitive if we are always trying to be better.”

While the Director credits her team with their success in this recent training, there is no doubt that the excellent structure of Harper Pierce’s Co. program has also contributed to it. She spent some time explaining how they have organized their efforts.

“First, it is essential to start with a clear set of goals,” she asserted. “We considered what we wanted our leaders to do within the company. For us, it was all about empowering a team to service a brand. However, for other companies it may be more about efficiency or acquiring new business.”

She also pointed out the importance of connecting lessons with the real world. This ties in with knowing the end goals, because these examples should all directly connect with them. For Harper Pierce & Co. many of these centered on how teams can work together on creative ways to promote services.

“I also like to tie things into a more macroscopic picture as well,” she added. “I don’t want my team thinking about what goes on with just our business. They need to understand the bigger picture, too – especially how our strategic direction relates to broader trends. All in all, I think successful training is about connecting things to the big picture.”
