"We are so excited to show the talents of the wonderful children of rural Haiti. Many travelers have already stopped to enjoy the show, ask about the artists, and thank them for sharing their paintings."

Haitian Children’s Paintings Exhibited at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

Five years after the terrible earthquake that devastated Haiti, a local organization, Alliance for Haiti’s Children, presents another view of Haitian life with an exhibit of paintings by Haitian schoolchildren. The exhibit of 78 paintings, titled “A Canvas of Hope,” is now on display at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, on the baggage claim level of Terminal C. The exhibit is part of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Arts Program and will show through March.

The paintings were created last summer during an academic enrichment camp for children who live in a rural area in the mountains outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The camp is sponsored and staffed by volunteers of the Alliance for Haiti’s Children, a Virginia-based nonprofit dedicated to the children, schools and teachers of rural Haiti. The exhibit also features photos of the artists, all of whom are able to go to school through the efforts of the Alliance.

The Alliance supports programs – including student sponsorships and a community library and computer lab – which provide year-round educational opportunities to give the students of Haiti hope for a brighter future.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Arts Program offers diverse regional, national and international rotating exhibits, live performances and public art displays that celebrate the beauty and creativity of the National Capital Region.
