Fulfilling the Demand for Precision Weather and Climate Data

Weather Analytics launches RESTful API for decision and operations support based on comprehensive global database

Weather data is all the rage.  Assessing the risks posed by a changing climate, or harnessing the rewards offered by foreseeable weather conditions is the next frontier of Big Data-minded organizations.  Weather Analytics takes center stage this week as it unleashes its latest developer-friendly tool, a global weather API.  The business intelligence company - known for its predictive data fusion in insurance and retail is now making globally gap-free, analytics-ready data available through a new API.

“We founded Weather Analytics on the premise that no single provider had effectively rationalized and organized enormous mounds of messy, disparate global weather data to support business decisions,” says Chairman & CEO Bill Pardue.  He organized the company in 2012 after starting up and purchasing several successful data analytics companies, following his tenure as President and CEO of LexisNexis’ Corporate and Federal Markets.

“At Weather Analytics,” Pardue says, “we’ve built best-in-class enterprise products combining clean, rational, high-resolution weather data with other content domains.  It’s time now to share that content directly with our customers.”   Starting this week, users have the ability to build their own ‘weather models’ using the information provided by Weather Analytics.  Key features of the API include:

· 36 Years of Historical Data

· Hourly, Daily, or Monthly Data

· Robust 7-Day Forecasts

· Individual or Bulk Calls

· Exports to many user-friendly formats such as JSON/XML

· Simulation data, like Typical Meteorological Years

· Indices such as Growing/Killing Degree Days and Heating/Cooling Degree Days

“Just getting access to globally comprehensive data is tough for those companies that need it,“ says Chief Product Officer, Emmett Soldati, “but more than that, we’re able to leverage our deep stores of data, and our awareness of the markets we serve, to build better data.  Getting heating degree or growing degree day information is crucial to building and agriculture sectors, respectively.  Our API delivers that information fast, reliably, and anywhere on the globe.”

Weather Analytics has produced a proprietary database built from multiple public and private sources containing comprehensive global historic and forecast data. We cleanse, normalize, and interpolate the most advanced datasets to provide an exceptional gap-free, statistically stable database with a 35kmx35km resolution. Our capability to ingest raw data in any format from any source, then prepare the data in useful formats, is what sets us apart from any other data providers.
