Assisted reproduction technology (ART) encompasses a variety of techniques to achieve fertilization by artificial means. It has a wide variety of applications in both human and veterinary medicine. Common ART methods include in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracyctoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Today, experts estimate that more than 5 million babies have been born utilizing ART techniques since the birth of the first IVF baby in 1978.

Inverted microscope and ICSI and micromanipulation equipment are an integral equipments used in any IVF lab. These microscopes are useful for thorough examination of living cells on the bottom of culture dishes. Therefore, they are used extensively in IVF labs. The ICSI and assisted hatching micromanipulation procedures are also done on inverted microscopes. The inverted microscope is used to look very closely at the eggs or embryos. It is on the inverted microscope where the ICSI and the assisted hatching procedures are done. IVF with ICSI involves the use of specialized micromanipulation tools and equipment and inverted microscopes that enable embryologists to select and pick up individual sperm in a specially designed ICSI needle. These products can meet the need of an increasing demand from the IVF/ICSI market.

Flexibility gives you the freedom you need. With the help of the different microscope adapters, you can fit your Eppendorf cell manipulation solution to your microscope of choice. Eppendorf micromanipulation systems are compatible with most instruments of the major microscope manufacturers.

The description and features of Eppendorf TransferMan NK:

The Eppendorf TransferMan NK2 is used routinely for microinjection of DNA into the pronucleus of zygotes and injection of embryonic stem cells into blastocysts. Operating the TransferMan NK 2 micromanipulator, with its few self-explanatory keys, is extremely simple. Embryologists who are beginners, especially benefit from the simple and intuitive operation. The system contains integrated coarse and fine manipulators, which are controlled via a single joystick. This joystick provides easy movement of the capillary in any direction (x, y, z). The work radius (speed) can be adjusted with a dial on the side of the control board. The proportional kinetics, which are similar to mechanical and hydraulic systems, allow an intuitive control which is very important for sensitive movements, e.g. collection of ES cells or pushing the capillary into the embryo. One of the important thing is that the system allows efficient working.

Each TransferMan NK 2 can store up to three independent positions in memory; by simply pressing the joystick button twice, the capillary can be moved to one of the three pre-programmed positions. For ES cell transfer, Position 1 is stored at the area where the uninjected embryos are placed. Position 2 is a central position for injection of the ES cells. After injection, the embryo is transferred to another area of the dish to keep the uninjected embryos separate from the injected ones. This area is set as Position 3. Its another useful feature in IVF Laboratory is for multiple users. It has the ability to program and store specific user profiles.
