Conde Contemporary: the Class of Art, and the Art of Class

Starr PR is pleased to introduce Miami-based Conde Contemporary, a studio and gallery representing exceptionally talented Cuban artists.

Nearer to the Brickell side of Miami’s historic Little Havana on Calle Ocho (Eighth Street), is Conde Contemporary, a studio and gallery space located in the heart of one of the most relevant and unfolding cultural scenes in Miami today. A couple miles from the more commercially known areas of Miami’s art world, Conde Contemporary is a bellwether for progressive Cuban art for both locals in the know, and art collectors around the world. At the helm of this tastefully rich experience are gallery owner, author and Miami native Stacy Conde, and her Cuban-born partner and husband, artist Andres Conde.

Stacy Conde’s own artistic influences began with fashion photography and film and led to a decade’s worth of collaborative projects with the legendary Barbara Hulanicki. From costume and fashion design, to complete renovations of some of Miami’s iconic art deco hotels and nightclubs, theirs is a friendship that endures still. Stacy entered the world of fine art in 1998, opening the Goodman-Conde Art Gallery in Miami’s renowned Design District – a 4500 square foot contemporary art gallery exhibiting a number of acclaimed artists including Andres Conde, Carlos Betancourt, George Goodridge, and more.

We're creating something at Conde Contemporary which I think is quite special. We provide a balanced, positive experience for our artists and collectors alike; by maintaining a stable foundation for our artists and encouraging artistic growth, we help protect the long term investment of our clients.

Stacy Conde, Director, Conde Contemporary

Andres Conde’s artistic influences began as an impressionable young boy, having left Cuba for Madrid and then onto New York, where the stark contrast between his impoverished homeland and the modern Western world would inspire the foundation of his art: an exploration of the expression of personality through color, shape and texture, within the subject’s sociocultural context. Andres’ current project is as ambitious as it is endearing: using, as inspiration, the covers of Cuba’s haute magazine, “Social,” which was published from 1918 until its closure in 1938, he is imagining what those covers might have been, had the magazine not ceased publication. He begins the series the year after its closure (1939), and he will symbolically close the series on the date of the Cuban Revolution, January 1, 1959.

Conde Contemporary not only features Andres Conde’s work, they also represent a number of incredibly talented Cuban artists. Currently on exhibition are works by Ernesto Capdevila, Aurora Molina, Guillermo Portieles, Darian Rodriguez Mederos, Raiman Rodriguez Moya, and Luis Enrique Toledo del Rio. Every piece on exhibit captivates at multiple levels of detail – in subject, statement, style, technique, media usage, materials and presentation.

The Condes’ collective experience in the art world is clear the moment you walk into their gallery: there is a relaxed, easygoing accessibility that is neither pretentious nor understated, even as you know that you are standing amongst significant and sophisticated expressions of artistic talent. It’s easy to see why locals, visitors, aficionados and collectors alike never miss an opportunity to attend an exhibition at Conde Contemporary.

Conde Contemporary is located at 1007 SW 8th Street in Little Havana. Visit their website at CondeContemporary.com to get on their email list, and follow them on Facebook to stay up to date.
