Carol Sankar Will Be Presenting the Confidence Factor at Civicon 2015 in Greensboro, NC

Carol Sankar will present her signature presentation based on her international best selling book, The Confidence Factor in Leadership, at Civicon 2015.

Code for Greensboro, a volunteer organization using the city’s open data to plan, develop and design better websites and apps for residents, is organizing its second hackathon and conference. Billed as “Civicon 2015”, the event will feature speakers and workshops from city partners and technologists from inside and outside of the community. Jane Nickles, CIO of the City of Greensboro, will provide a keynote talk as the event kicks off on November 6th, followed for the next two days by speakers and workshops offered by companies like Socrata and RedHat.

In addition to the conference-style programming, the event will feature a traditional hackathon. During the hackathon teams will compete to build an application under time constraints, with prizes awarded for various categories. A panel of judges from the community will be on hand to ask teams questions and decide winners.

Civicon 2015 marks the arrival of Code for Greensboro as a movement within the city. In less than a year, the effort has gained over 150 members and the official support of the city. In the same time frame, Code for Greensboro has shipped apps like FindIt—which helps residents find everything from parks to firehouses—with many more in the pipeline. The event will kick off on Friday, November 6th at HQ Greensboro, part of the Lewis Street corridor being revitalized by local developer and Greensboro booster Andy Zimmerman.

The hackathon and conference will then be held November 7th-8th at the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN), a joint campus of UNC Greensboro and A&T State University. Both venues highlight the very best of Greensboro—its entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to education, especially engineering and science.
