California Business 'Lifts' Patient's Spirits

101 Mobility of San Jose, owned by Virgil Moore, donates a vertical platform lift for a pediatric patient in need.

Helping a child in need is just another day on the job for California business-owner Virgil Moore. Cooperating alongside Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), Moore was able provide a vertical platform lift for a pediatric patient returning home after a five-month stay in the hospital.

“The big smile on her face and the appreciation of her mother more than compensated us for the small part we played in this overall effort,” Moore remarked.

In April, 101 Mobility of San Jose, Moore’s business, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center collaborated to provide the young patient with a vertical platform lift, also known as a VPL. Operating similar to an elevator, a vertical platform lift allows individuals to be lifted from one floor to another without having to leave their mobility device behind.

Moore first reached out to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center several months prior as part of his business-to-business marketing campaign. When the opportunity for installing a vertical platform lift arose, the medical center decided to contact Moore.

Working alongside the organization, 101 Mobility of San Jose was able to provide a Bruno vertical platform lift at a significantly reduced rate, including free installation.

According to Moore, the patient was “all smiles” at the unveiling.

“Through the donation, the pediatric patient is now able to freely enter and exit her home using her own power wheelchair,” Moore explained. “With just a little training, she was able to quickly learn how to navigate and operate the lift.”

The VMC Foundation, an independent/nonprofit organization which raises funds for the Santa Clara Valley Health & Health System, contributed donations toward the lift project. This operation fell in line with the VMC Foundation’s mission to provide medical assistance to residents throughout Santa Clara County.

Moore said that this effort also coincides with 101 Mobility of San Jose’s pledge to participate in community outreach projects every year.

“To assist families financially, we often partner with local agencies who serve people with disabilities and the elderly,” Moore expressed. “Through 101 Mobility of San Jose, more residents of San Jose will now be able to live the independent lives they desire.”
