Brazil-Florida Business Council Hosts Luncheon to Honor Business Leaders

BFBC, Inc. awards leaders for their contribution to Brazil and Florida economies.

The Brazil-Florida Business Council, Inc. will host the 2015 Brazil-Florida Business Awards Luncheon to honor business leaders and their corporations for their contributions to the Brazil and Florida economies.

The awards ceremony and luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at the University Club in Tampa, Florida. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and the program starts at 12 p.m. Tampa mayor Bob Buckhorn will deliver the welcome address.

David G. Neeleman, one of the event's honorees, founded JetBlue in 1999 and served as CEO until May 2007, and as chairman until May 2008. In March 2008, he unveiled his plan to launch Azul, a new domestic airline based in Brazil. It has since become the country’s third-largest airline.

Gary J. Spulak, another honoree, began his career with Embraer in 1983, when he developed the infrastructure to support the Bandeirante and Brasilia commercial aircraft in North America. He is currently a board member for Enterprise Florida and is on the Board of Governors for the Wings Club and the Aerospace Industry Association.

Spulak recently joined Gov. Rick Scott in breaking ground on Embraer’s new Engineering and Technology Center, which will bring 200 jobs to Melbourne, Florida over the next five years.

“This latest achievement is a testament to the close partnership we have with the state of Florida and economic development authorities on the Space Coast and Melbourne, without which this aviation campus would not have been possible,” Spulak said of Brazil-based Embraer’s relationship to Florida.
