Bayside Dentist Leads Fights Against Pandemic Drug Abuse at International Convention

Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, Periodontist and Dental Implant Surgeon of Bayside, New York, and President and Founding Sponsor of Foundation for A Drug Free World, The Americas Chapter (FDFW), led an international delegation at a drug education and prevention conference in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, Periodontist and Dental Implant Surgeon of Bayside, New York, and President and Founding Sponsor of Foundation for A Drug Free World, The Americas Chapter (FDFW), arrived in Washington, DC with members of Drug Free World as part of an international convention on drug abuse. Dr. Fialkoff led the delegation that consisted of Meghan Fialkoff, Executive Director of FDFW, David Tidman FDFW Lead Presenter, Bishop Dr. Lubin Moise, Franklin Valoa, Drug Counselor from the National Council of Drugs of the Dominican Republic, Rabbi Levy Abdurakhmanov, Pastor Lenox Abrigo, Melvin Dial of the DC Arts Non-Profit Organization and Tamrat Medhim of Little Ethiopia Magazine. The convention began with a presentation at the National Affairs Office of Dupont Circle for community and religious leaders, an interview with Maggie Linton Radio Show of Sirius XM in which Dr. Fialkoff discussed the organization’s goals of reaching all youth with its free drug education, a meeting with the DC Police Department on collaborating on its drug prevention initiatives, and visits to Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

As President of the chapter, Dr. Fialkoff planned the convention that brought together like minded community individuals and government officials, armed each with materials and media, and created a community educational plan for 2016. According to the NY Daily News, “Smack is back big time in the Big Apple, where fatal overdoses outnumber homicides and law enforcement seized roughly $300 million worth of heroin in 2014. In the first quarter of 2015, the DEA alone has already taken nearly 220 pounds of smack off the streets. “We’ve never seen these numbers, not even in the heroin epidemics from 30 to 40 years ago,” said James Hunt, special agent in charge of the DEA’s New York Field Division.” The message of Dr. Fialkoff’s convention was dedicated to a pre-emptive educational approach to this ever burgeoning development of drug abuse in the USA and around the world.

Through the use of well documented booklets, hard hitting videos and educational criterion, FDFW delivers presentations to groups from 3rd grade to high school, parental groups, Police Explorer groups, YMCAs and a variety of organizations concerned with the negative impact of drugs on our future. The material available consists of booklets and videos defining the nature and consequence of most of the current substances abused, and material for conducting classes by teachers in a school environment. The Americas Chapter has already provided more than 900 free drug education events in NYC and Latin America, trained more than 2000 NYPD Officers and received more than 15 recognitions from such government officials as Congresswoman Grace Meng and NYC Public Advocate Letitia James.

Dr. Fialkoff said, “It is important to share the knowledge we have gained as adults with our children. They are the future generation and can be helped to avoid problems that we went through in our lives. As a doctor, one of our roles is to help our community, and that’s why I support the Drug Free World initiatives. ”
