Bay Event Marketing Engages in Presentation Skills Training

Bay Event Marketing's director described the team's latest training initiative, and shared some tips on presenting persuasively.

“Ongoing learning is a pivotal part of our culture at Bay Event Marketing,” said Elise, the company’s director of operations. “When new team members join us, our leaders support them through our rigorous training program. It doesn’t end there, however. When possible, my colleagues and I attend conferences and other trainings.”

Elise explained that the group also facilitates their own internal educational programs on a regular basis. They are currently focusing on sharpening their presentation skills. “Almost everything we do at Bay Event Marketing requires some level of planned presentation,” she stated. “Whether we’re pitching to potential partners or promoting brands to the public, we must know how to connect with audiences appropriately and convey our messages effectively. Everyone is already proficient in this area, but I’m a firm believer that you can never be too good at something so important.”

Director of Bay Event Marketing Highlights Strategies for Giving Memorable Presentations

“Public speaking is nerve-wracking for the best of us,” Elise continued. “That’s another reason we need to stay on top of our presentation skills. Doing so helps minimize the anxiety that comes with speaking before groups of people. Fortunately, there are a lot of methods to hone our abilities. One of my personal favorites is to think of presenting as a form of entertainment. There’s no need to do anything bizarre, but it’s crucial to connect emotionally with audiences. Otherwise, it’s much too boring and factual.”

According to Elise, when people speak to crowds their nervousness tends to cause them to speak too fast. As such, she frequently reminds her team members to be fully aware of the speed at which they speak. She even points out how President Obama takes many deliberate pauses during his speeches.

Bay Event Marketing’s director also noted two seemingly obvious but often neglected aspects of presenting with dynamism. “No one can speak with power and credibility if they don’t make eye contact with the audience,” she concluded. “Presenters should do so with everyone present – or as many as possible if it’s a larger crowd. I also suggest that speakers avoid reading their speeches at all costs. This is one of the dangers of PowerPoint. When people read from slides and note cards, for instance, they sound robotic. The idea is to be animated, personable, and engaging while sharing a story or anecdote. These are some of the skills we practice in training.”
