Philly's Lost Rock Legends WAX Get Thumbs Up from Rolling Stone!
Philadelphia music legends WAX have been receiving rave reviews from fans and music critics around the world.
Online, January 19, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Philadelphia, PA - One of the break-out CDs of 2010 by Philadelphia music legends WAX entitled Melted has been receiving rave reviews from fans and music critics around the world. Most recently Rolling Stone's editor David Fricke gave the CD release a thumbs up, listing it as Rolling Stone's Top 10 reissues pick of 2010! (note: in actuality the album was never previously released)

Wax were from my hometown, Philadelphia, and they were everywhere between 1969 and 1971 - in the clubs, opening shows for John Mayall, the Byrds and Chicago - while I was away at college. They never made an album, so I would only know them by reputation and the members' later success: Singer-keyboardist Rob Hyman co-founded the Hooters; drummer Rick Chertoff produced them; and singer David Kagan was the full bright voice, with Hyman, in the fine Philly group Baby Grand, which I did see. Melted is a set of songs Wax taped live in the studio, near the end of their tether, and it is vintage early-Seventies ambition: progressive songwriting with snappy instrumental digressions, just enough pop gloss and that inevitable Philly-R&B tang. From 1969-1971, the band "WAX" held court in Philadelphia, regularly performing at the Electric Factory, with acts like The Byrds, Chicago, Flamin Groovies, John Mayall, Manfred Mann, The Everly Brothers, and more. Signed to legendary producer Bob Crewe's CGC Records, they headed to NYC's The Record Plant to begin their first album (Lennon and The Who were in the studio at the same time!)
Financial difficulties forced the closing of Crewe's label, and the band found themselves with neither an album, nor a label. In the spring of 1971, they recorded a TOTALLY LIVE album's worth of original songs to shop, however a combination of frustrations and outside forces led to the band's demise. That live tape was lost for nearly 40 years. Recently rediscovered and remastered, the brilliant live playing, songwriting, and performance ability of WAX, was recently released. "MELTED" is long overdue!!

In the fall of 2009, bassist Beau Jones, was diagnosed with brain cancer, and the members all gathered to share love and support. It was at that time that long-time band friend, Arnie Holland (CEO of Lightyear Ent.) offered to release live album.
Sadly, Beau Jones passed away Sept 3, 2010, a week before the worldwide release of WAX..melted. The chemistry and camaraderie of WAX has touched a responsive ear worldwide, as radio and press coverage continue to grow with accolades.
